January
29- February 1, 2019
Reading: We learned that a moral is a
lesson that the author is trying to portray through the story’s main
elements. We read various fables and
figured out how the elements help form the moral. Students did an excellent job making
inferences to determine the moral of the story. In the fable, The Camel Dances,
students came up with some of the following themes: follow your heart, don’t
give up on your dreams, and believe in yourself.
Reading
Logs are due Monday, February 4. (100
minutes)
|
Math: We continued reviewing one and two-step
number stories. Students used bar
models as visual aids. They also
practiced highlighting key information in the problem to solve multiplication
and division problems.
|
Social
Studies: We
reviewed the branches of government.
Students also read about the Illinois economy. They categorized jobs into various
categories: mining, agriculture, service, and business.
|
Writing: Students wrote about a moment
where Maria Isabel liked or did not like something in the story. They used text evidence to support their ideas.
|
Word
Study: We learned
about open-syllable words that have a long vowel sound in the first
syllable. Students completed a sort to
show which syllable was stressed.
|
Miscellaneous: I hope you have been staying safe and warm
the past few days! On Tuesday, students
enjoyed finding books at the book fair!
Next Wednesday, February 6, is Global Play Day. Students are welcome to bring in
games/activities to play with their classmates (no electronics, please). Since our agriculture in-school field trip
was cancelled on Monday, we have rescheduled it for Monday, February 11. Also, on February 11th, we will
be having our Erin’s Law presentation.
Finally, a letter about our Valentine’s Day party went home on Tuesday…please
let me know if you have any questions.
Have a great weekend!
